Psalmist said, “For He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways” (Psalm 91:11 NIV).
I turned left at the stop sign in Mercer where Rt. 62 and Rt. 19 meet as I’ve done many times before. However, this time I found myself praying softly, “Thank you that I’m covered by your blood and surrounded by your angels. Thank you, Lord!”
I slowed to a stop as a car backed out of a driveway onto the highway in front of me. Suddenly, I heard squealing tires and looked in my rear view mirror just in time to see a little, red sports car, coming up behind me. It was traveling much too fast, swerving all over the road. I stepped on the gas to remove myself from its path, but a crash seemed inevitable. Then miraculously, the car righted itself and the impact never came. My hands shook as I drove to my writer’s meeting.
Later, on my way home, I saw the long, black skid marks that the speeding sports car had made. As I thanked the Lord again for protecting me, the words that I had spoken seconds before my narrow escape came back to me. I marveled at the prompting of the Holy Spirit that had inspired me to pray that prayer before I even knew danger was near. There is no doubt in my mind that God used it to protect me from serious injury and to remind me to heed the nudges when the Holy Spirit prompts me to pray.
Thank you, Father, for the faithfulness of the Holy Spirit, as well as for the power of the blood of Jesus and your holy angels to protect us. Amen.
