Is anything too hard for the Lord? (Genesis 18:14 NIV)
One Saturday morning, a scripture phrase kept coming to my mind, “Exceeding abundantly…” “Exceeding abundantly….” Finally I asked, “What are you trying to tell me, Lord?”
Then I remembered the rest of the verse–“Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20 KJV). As I meditated on the verse, I began to sense that God wanted us to claim this scripture for the repayment of all our debts, including our mortgage. Could I really be hearing God correctly?
When I told my husband, he got out our calculator, added up the figures, and wrote the total on a piece of paper. Together we prayed to claim the promise, but I almost laughed when Donn spoke the amount–it seemed so impossible!
Soon after that, Donn got a phone call from an employment agency that he had not contacted asking if he would be interested in applying for several jobs in other cities. In less than a year, Donn had taken a position in Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, and we had sold our home, gaining enough capital to pay off all of our debts–including our mortgage in Stoneboro.
As we prepared to move, I found the paper Donn and I had prayed over and realized God had, indeed, kept His promise in a way that was beyond anything we could have asked or thought.
Thank you, Father, for your faithfulness in spite of our unbelief. Amen.
