Jesus said, “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2 KJV).
By 1984, we had discontinued our Christian Nursery School and the close friends who had shared our home for awhile had moved out. As days went by, the large rental property we lived in just didn’t seem to fit our needs anymore. It was too big and too expensive to heat.
One night I lay in bed thinking about the kind of house and location I wanted for our family. But in the end, I was discouraged because I couldn’t think of a single place in our small town that met those qualifications. A few days later, I went to a party at a friend’s house and a wall hanging caught my eye. “I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2). My pulse quickened because I sensed God was saying He knew my desires and was going to provide.
A few days later, good friends of ours called to tell us the other half of their house, which was a rental, was going to be vacant soon. When we walked through the house that I’d always admired, I realized it met every criteria I’d wanted. Once again God had proven Himself to be Jehovah Jireh, the God Who Provides!
How thankful I am, Father, that you not only provide a place for us in heaven, but you also prepare for us here on earth. Amen.
