God said, ” And it shall come to pass that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear” (Isaiah 65:24).
One day I was relaxing in the front seat of our car beside Donn as our family traveled home from Garrett County, Maryland. As we entered a wooded area, clear words from scripture suddenly penetrated my semi-lethargic state, “There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.” Almost simultaneously, I heard the sharp intake of my husband’s breath.
Instantly alert, I straightened and saw that the previously dry road had become a sheet of ice. Donn was straining every muscle to maintain control of the car. Immediately, I began to pray, claiming the promise I had just heard in the same King James English I had memorized as a child. I thanked the Lord repeatedly that nothing bad was going to happen to us.
As soon as we left the shaded area, the roads were dry again, and the deep furrows in my Donn’s brow relaxed as he breathed a sigh of relief. I relaxed, too, thanking God that even before we knew we needed it, He had given our family the promise He knew we would need.
Thank you, Father, that your eyes run to and fro throughout the earth to show yourself strong and mighty to save us. Amen.
