You may ask, “What will we eat in the seventh year if we do not plant or harvest our crops?” I will send you such a blessing in the sixth year that the land will yield enough for three years (Leviticus 25:20-21 NIV).
As I continued to pray about God’s call on our lives, Leviticus 25 titled “The Sabbath Year” in my Bible, began to draw my attention. God told Moses to tell the Israelites to sow their fields, prune their vineyards and gather their crops for six years; but in the seventh year, the land was to have a “sabbath of rest.” Was God calling us to take a sabbatical of sorts and to use that time in service to Him? But if Donn took a sabbatical from working as an electrical engineer, how would we live?
Although we had told no one about our situation, people began to give us bags and bags of good, used clothing for our seven-year-old twins, most of which would fit them in a year or two. Verses 20 and 21 of Leviticus 25 came to my mind as I looked at the piles and piles of clothing I had spread out on our bed.
Later, I saw that in Luke 8, we’re told that Mary, Joanna, Susanna, and perhaps others, helped to support Jesus and His disciples “out of their own means.” (Luke 8:2-3 NIV). Gradually, God was increasing my faith that if He was asking Donn to leave His job, He would also supply our needs.
Heavenly Father, may we truly believe that if we are obedient to your call, all we need will be given to us.
