TWO ARE BETTER THAN ONE

Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work (Ecclesiastes 4:9 NIV).

Our daughter’s wedding was less than a month away. We had a rebellious, pregnant foster daughter and her three-year-old child living with us, as well as another boarder. In spite of all that needed to be done, my physical therapist had told me I was not to be on my feet, or even sitting up, for more than 10 or 15 minutes at a time! They had finally diagnosed the ongoing, excruciating pain in my hip as bursitis.

I tried to obey my therapist’s orders, but I constantly felt guilty–either for not getting everything done or for not obeying my therapist’s instructions. In addition, my hip was not getting any better. Then one day I read an Upper Room devotional titled, Helpers, based on the principle that two are better than one. I realized that God was using my bursitis to bring me to the point of asking others to help with the tasks I had somehow decided were ALL my job. It was His way of helping me to avoid the nervous breakdown I was working up to while trying to accomplish everything myself.

As I began asking for help, my health improved, and I discovered that two (or three or four) really are better than one. Try it and see!

Father, forgive me when pride keeps me from asking for help. Please help me be willing to ask. Amen.
