They asked each other, “Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?” (Mark 16:3 NIV)
Can you sense the anxiety of the women as they asked each other this question? Does it remind you of questions you’ve asked as you faced impossible situations? Maybe you, too, have had times when you’ve known, as these women did, that removing obstacles that blocked your path was beyond your capabilities.
Mary Magdalene, Mary, and Salome could have missed the miracle if they had allowed the seeming impossibility of their circumstances to deter them. However, led on by their love, they went to Jesus’ tomb and found the stone had already been removed. God had sent an angel before them.
God deals with us according to our needs. Sometimes He performs a miracle, and sometimes He provides help to make the task possible. At the resurrection of Lazarus, no angel was sent to remove the stone. Instead, Jesus asked Lazarus’ friends to take it away.
Regardless of whether God works a miracle or works through our friends, we know as we trust Him, we can face tomorrow without anxiety about who will roll away the stone.
As I face hard situations, Father, help me trust that you will provide a way. Help me not to worry about “stones” I may never have to roll away. Amen.
